Ingredients
- 2 1/4 cup flour
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 3/4 cup butter
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 egg
- 3/4 cup buttermilk
- Apple or Cherry Pie Filling (Dawn used Cherry Pie Filling)
- NOTE: Apple Pie Filling – can add 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon and 1/3 cup raisins
- Cherry Pie Filling – add 1/2 teaspoon almond flavoring
Instructions
- Combine the flour, sugar. Cut in the butter until crumbly. Set aside 1/2 cup of the mixture.
- To the remaining mixture, add the baking powder, baking soda. Set aside. Combine the egg and buttermilk. Add to dry ingredient, stirring just until moistened.
- Spread 2/3 of the batter in a greased 9” pan. Add the pie filling. Spoon remaining batter on top. Sprinkle with reserved crumb mixture on top.
Bake at 350oF about 55 minutes.
