Jewish Apple Cake

Cake Batter

  • 3 cups flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon Tang (orange drink mix)
  • 1 cup cooking oil
  • ½ cup water
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 4 eggs

Apple Mixture

  • 4 cups sliced apples (about 3 large)
  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Tang (optional)
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon

Topping

  • ¾ cup flour
  • ½ cup sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ cup butter, softened

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine cake batter ingredients. Beat on low speed with an electric mixer for 5 minutes.
  3. In a separate bowl, prepare the Apple Mixture.
  4. Prepare the Topping by mixing until crumbs form.
  5. Pour half the cake batter into the prepared pan.
  6. Layer with half of the apple mixture.
  7. Add the remaining cake batter, then top with the remaining apple mixture.
  8. Sprinkle the crumb topping evenly over the top.
  9. Bake 50–60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
